Message from the President

Thank you for the welcome to both Sandro and myself.  I'm sure I speak for both of us when I say we will do our best to keep the ship running smoothly.

The first priority is to get all entries for Nationals to Mike Armstrong.  Please get those to me as soon as possible.  The deadline is February 29th in Calgary so  get them in the mail as soon as you can.  We already have three that were submitted in Ottawa.  Make sure your payment is included unless you are paying by paypal.  Cheques or money orders only.  See the entry form for details.

At the AGM we were relieved to see all other executive positions remained in the same hands.  Everyone has been doing a stellar job and we know it will make things easier for Sandro and myself.  Remember at the end of the day, we are all volunteers.  Thanks to Glyn and Stan for their service over the past years.

We have a number of meets coming up in May and June after Nationals.  The Toronto Super Show is the first weekend in June and will be an invitational.  Those who participated last year will be given priority.  To those people who did and would like to return, let me know as soon as possible.

My only other comment is with respect to accessibility.  I have an email address which is Dave©cdnag.com.  If you email me about an issue, you have to ensure you include your phone number as I will be calling you back.  I will not respond by email.  I would prefer a call at 519-894-5913.  Good luck with lifting and life and 2012.

Dave Hoffman

The Results are In! 2012 Provincial Championship Results

This year, our provincial championships were hosted in Ottawa by meet director Sandro D’Angelo.  Given the addition of Classic lifting the meet went well and was successful.

In total we had 82 lifters.  Saturday was equipped lifting.  Best male lifter was Brandon Summers with a total of 817.5. Best female lifter was Sarah Leighton with a total of 517.5. We are very pleased to say that she has joined the 500 wilks club.  She is only the fifth woman in recorded CPU history to reach that mark.

Sunday was our first Provincial Classic Championships with 48 lifters.  Best female lifter went to Maggie Rafferty with a total of 365.  Maggie achieved her elite total lifting classic and has gotten the highest women’s classic wilks to date in the country. Best male lifter went to Michael Sinclair who reached a total of 892.5 and a wilks of 515.7 also achieving his elite total.  Michael continues to dominate Classic lifting amongst all Canadian men with the only wilks over 500 in the country.

The day was completed with awarding best female athlete of the year to Grace Bartel of the Niagara Powerlifting Club and the best Male Athlete of the year to Glyn Moore. Grace truly personifies ‘grace’ with her performance at nationals and Master Worlds.  Glyn, won his weight class and set world records both while  hosting the World Master Championships.  Congratulations to both Grace and Glyn.
