Open/Masters Championship Summary From Marlene & Glyn Moore

This was a historic weekend of lifting.

Niagara Powerlifting club hosted the OPA OPEN / MASTERS PROVINCIAL CHAMPIONSHIPS in St. Catharines at the Holiday Inn and Suites Conference Centre.  A venue that has been home to Niagara Powerlifting since 2003.

Below is a letter from meet directors, Glyn and Marlene Moore:

I think that the whole Niagara Team (family) can feel proud that we held what I consider a very successful Championship.

Marlene and I want to thank this incredible club and all our friends and family members for making this such a memorable event.  Now that it is over we have decided that we can begin talking again.  As many of you know, I may not be the most patient person in the world.  I am not going to begin to mention names for fear of missing out someone.

There have been so many moments that have made this weekend special.  Geno coming up from the US and offering his unique style of announcing.  Nello becoming the new Hoi Leung on the microphone with his wit and knowledge of powerlifting.

One special highlight for me was seeing our team member and friend Phil Plato come out to visit us at the contest. Phil has some health issues to deal with right now but his visit was one of the highlights for me.  Stay strong my friend.

Congratulations to our two Champion of Champions.

Joanna Rieber, who even though a master’s lifter chose to lift in the open division and then go on to get best lifter. Her total was truly outstanding and she continues to get better all the time.

Kelly Branton. Well what can we say about that performance that has not been said over and over. To achieve the first 1000 plus classic total in Canada and then go on to get the second highest total that has ever been achieved in the world is simply amazing. Watching this was a memory, but to have it done here in St. Catharines was a memory that will stay with me forever.

I hope that all the lifters enjoyed their time with us in St Catharines and your incredible feats of strength amazed us and the new friendships that have been formed equally as important.
