This year, our provincial championships were hosted in Ottawa by meet director Sandro D’Angelo. Given the addition of Classic lifting the meet went well and was successful.
In total we had 82 lifters. Saturday was equipped lifting. Best male lifter was Brandon Summers with a total of 817.5. Best female lifter was Sarah Leighton with a total of 517.5. We are very pleased to say that she has joined the 500 wilks club. She is only the fifth woman in recorded CPU history to reach that mark.
Sunday was our first Provincial Classic Championships with 48 lifters. Best female lifter went to Maggie Rafferty with a total of 365. Maggie achieved her elite total lifting classic and has gotten the highest women’s classic wilks to date in the country. Best male lifter went to Michael Sinclair who reached a total of 892.5 and a wilks of 515.7 also achieving his elite total. Michael continues to dominate Classic lifting amongst all Canadian men with the only wilks over 500 in the country.
The day was completed with awarding best female athlete of the year to Grace Bartel of the Niagara Powerlifting Club and the best Male Athlete of the year to Glyn Moore. Grace truly personifies ‘grace’ with her performance at nationals and Master Worlds. Glyn, won his weight class and set world records both while hosting the World Master Championships. Congratulations to both Grace and Glyn.
